Important Information – Resurfacing – 2022

We hope you are enjoying another great tennis season at the Barrhaven Tennis Club.

We strongly encourage you to familiarize yourself with the following important information:

I would like to begin by informing you that you can now book court 1 (May 12th). Work on the deck is largely completed. Funding for the deck was provided by our local counsellor Jan Harder. She is retiring this year after a long career at the City of Ottawa serving the ward of Barrhaven.

As most of you know, the Club started resurfacing the courts in 2021. As indicated last year, we divided the project into two phases, and started with the resurfacing of courts 1-4. We will now proceed with resurfacing courts 5-8. Like last year, the project needs to be done in warm weather. It will unfortunately affect court availability during the time the work is being carried out.

Project Schedule:

Power washing: Tuesday, May 24, and Wednesday May 25. The nets will be removed at 9:00pm on May 23. If the project is completed on time, the nets will be back up before the end of the day May 25.

Resurfacing: June 6 onward (If the weather cooperates, the company estimates about 10 working days to complete the project)

Programming changes:

Because the Club will only have four courts available while the work is being done, we will be instituting the following changes:

Stroke of the week (SOW): cancelled on May 24. However, the National Tennis School has agreed to offer SOW on Saturday May 21 from 3:00-4:00 for beginners and 4:00-5:00 for intermediates. Registration for the May 21 sessions will open on May 15th.
There will be another stroke of the week on May 31, but none on June 7 and June 14.

After school junior socials: cancelled at least for June 10.

Sunday junior socials: cancelled at least for June 12.

Ladies socials: There will be no ladies socials on June 3 and June 10.

Tennis lessons: they have been cancelled, or rescheduled to less prime time, while the work is being done.

House league: will be suspended while the courts are being resurfaced.

Since we will have only four courts available during the work period, we will be monitoring court bookings very closely to ensure everyone has a chance to play. As indicated in an earlier email (see email titled “Double Bookings’ sent on May 1st), this means absolutely no back-to-back booking, i.e. booking two consecutive hours. We will cancel your second hour.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation.
